The last link in the chain

Covered in grease, 
with dust between his eyelids, 
the exhausted protagonist spends another day, 
despairing, in agony, with all the sorrows of the world in the right pocket of his pants.

He doesn’t sleep, doesn’t laugh, doesn’t cry, he just looks, 
observing the rain that wets his skin without any fertility.

Someone asked him about his dreams; he doesn’t respond, just listens. 
Another person reproached him for his black hole perspective. He replied:

«I no longer dream, I no longer live. What you see today is the reflection of a past ravaged by infinite illusion disintegrated by many, diminished; an emptiness filled with nothing. Your question has only one answer, an uncomfortable argument you don’t want to hear: I am the last link in the chain.»
